Rifle Plate Product Matrix

1. Protection Levels:

  • NIJ Protection Ratings: Plates are rated based on the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) standards, such as Level III, Level IV, etc. Higher levels provide protection against more powerful ballistic threats.
  • Special Threat Protection: Some plates are designed to protect against specific rounds or threats not covered by standard NIJ ratings.

2. Material Composition:

  • Ceramic vs. Polyethylene: Different materials offer various benefits. Plates made of Polyethylene are typically used for up to Level III threats, while ceramic plates are most used to protect against armour-piercing rounds - but are often heavier.
  • Hybrid Designs: Some plates use a combination of materials to balance weight, thickness, and protective capability.

3. Weight and Thickness:

  • Weight Considerations: Lighter plates are generally preferred for mobility and comfort, especially during extended wear, but they might be more expensive.
  • Thickness: Thinner plates may be more comfortable and less restrictive but may offer lesser levels of protection compared to thicker ones.

4. Shape and Curvature:

  • Single vs. Multi-Curve: Single-curve plates offer basic ergonomics, while multi-curve plates provide a more contoured fit, enhancing comfort and wearability.
  • Coverage Area: Different sizes and shapes (e.g., shooters cut, swimmers cut) allow for varied levels of coverage and mobility.

5. In Conjunction With (ICW) vs. Stand Alone (SA):

  • ICW Plates: These plates are designed to be used with soft armor backing, providing additional protection.
  • Stand Alone Plates: SA plates can be used independently without additional backing, offering flexibility in different tactical situations.

6. Warranty:

  • Warranty: Plates come with varying warranty periods, reflecting the manufacturer's confidence in the product's longevity and performance. All armour offered by PRE Labs Inc. comes with a minimum 5-year warranty period.

7. Special Features:

  • Special Threat Testing: Some plates undergo testing against specific ballistic threats, providing an extra layer of assurance.
  • Compliance and Certification: Plates might be listed as compliant with certain standards, ensuring they meet stringent safety and performance criteria.
